ArcticZymes Technologies Strengthens Board with Appointment of Dr. Hanna Pirita Lesch, Supporting Diversification into RNA and Continued Leadership in Cell & Gene Therapy
Tromsø, Norway - 28 May 2026 - ArcticZymes Technologies ASA (OSE: AZT) today announced that, following approval at its Annual General Meeting, Dr. Hanna Pirita Lesch has been elected to the Company's Board of Directors. Dr. Frank Mathias has been re-elected as Chair, and Petter Dragesund has been re-elected as a Board member. Sharon Brownlow steps down from the Board after a period of valued service.
The appointment directly supports the execution of ArcticZymes' strategy: diversifying into RNA through the build-out of a dedicated RNA enzyme portfolio, while continuing to strengthen the Company's established position in cell and gene therapy and broader advanced biomanufacturing.
Supporting diversification into RNA and continued leadership in cell & gene therapy
Dr. Lesch brings to the Board directly relevant competencies across both strategic priorities. As Chief Technology Officer of Aurealis Therapeutics, and previously CTO of Exothera - an international CDMO focused on viral vector and mRNA-based therapies - she has led technology strategy, platform development, and CMC for some of Europe's most advanced RNA and gene therapy programs. Her hands-on experience scaling RNA manufacturing processes supports ArcticZymes' diversification into the RNA segment, while her deep expertise in viral vector and ATMP manufacturing reinforces the Company's continued leadership in cell and gene therapy.
Equally important, Dr. Lesch combines this strategic perspective with a genuine understanding of the underlying technology and science. She holds a PhD in Molecular Medicine and an Adjunct Professorship in Biomedicine and Bioprocessing at the University of Eastern Finland, has authored more than 35 peer-reviewed publications, and currently chairs the European Society of Gene and Cell Therapy's Manufacturing Committee. Earlier in her career, as Gene Therapy Unit Director at the Kuopio Center for Gene and Cell Therapy and R&D Director at Finvector and FKD Therapies, she contributed to the development of adenoviral gene therapy products that progressed to marketing approval.
Continuity and stewardship
Dr. Frank Mathias, CEO of Oxford Biomedica and previously CEO of Rentschler Biopharma and Medigene AG, continues as Chair. Petter Dragesund, an independent investor and former Senior Partner and Head of Corporate Finance at Pareto Securities, continues as a Board member. Their re-election ensures continuity of governance and strategic direction as the Company executes its growth plan.
Thanks to Sharon Brownlow
The Board and Management extend their sincere thanks to Sharon Brownlow, who is stepping down after contributing valuable life-sciences industry experience drawn from her senior roles at Catapult and Cobra Biologics. Her perspective has supported ArcticZymes during an important phase of its development, and the Company wishes her continued success.
CEO commentary
"Hanna's appointment is a deliberate step to strengthen our Board as we execute on our strategy - both diversifying into RNA through a dedicated enzyme portfolio and continuing to build on our leadership in cell and gene therapy. She brings directly relevant competencies across RNA and viral vector manufacturing, combined with a deep understanding of the underlying technology and science - exactly the perspective we need around the Board table as we move into this next phase," said Michael Akoh, CEO of ArcticZymes Technologies. "Together with Frank's continued leadership as Chair and Petter's strategic finance perspective, we have a Board well positioned to support our next phase of growth. I'd also like to thank Sharon for her contributions during her time with us - her industry insight has been genuinely valued."
