SpareBank 1 SMN: Strengthening the group through new launches and profitable growth
SpareBank 1 SMN achieved a profit of NOK 954 million after tax in the third quarter of 2026, equating to a return on equity of 12.4 per cent in the quarter. The return for the first nine months of the year is 13.2 per cent, and thus above target.
The bank is extremely well-positioned, with a Common Equity Tier 1 capital ratio of 17.1 per cent, well above both its own and regulatory requirements. The group is maintaining strict cost control and streamlining its operations while investing in new expertise, market presence and technology.
"SpareBank 1 SMN has built a strong position by developing its financial centres as active stakeholders in local communities throughout Central Norway. Our centres ensure proximity to people and businesses, and enable us to support them with our full range of expertise in everything from banking and insurance to estate agency and accounting. Combined with the market's best digital solutions, our local presence makes everyday life easier for our customers," says Group CEO Jan-Frode Janson.
SpareBank 1 SMN already operates 25 financial centres across Central Norway and one in Oslo, and is currently establishing a further centre in Lillestrøm following the integration of Statera Accounting into SpareBank 1 Regnskapshuset SMN. "We are the market leader in Central Norway, where we have consciously strengthened our presence by opening several new financial centres in recent years, including one in Kristiansund. We are now expanding our home market using the same successful strategy of acquiring local accountancy firms and developing them into financial centres," says Janson.
Lending growth over the past 12 months stands at 5.2 per cent, bringing total lending to NOK 268.3 billion. Lending to retail customers is up 5.5 per cent, while lending to corporate clients has increased by 5.9 per cent, both over the same period. Deposit growth has risen by 0.9 per cent over the past 12 months, bringing the bank's total deposits to NOK 150.3 billion.
EiendomsMegler 1 Midt-Norge continues to enjoy high activity levels, but has seen a slight drop in the number of sales and new assignments as the residential market has slowed. The profit for the third quarter was NOK 15 million. SpareBank 1 Regnskapshuset SMN continues to grow, mainly through acquisitions, while at the same time implementing a significant restructuring of its business from traditional accountancy to consultancy. The company reported a loss of NOK 13 million for the quarter, largely due to seasonal fluctuations. SpareBank 1 Finans Midt-Norge posted a profit of NOK 65 million in the third quarter, roughly on a par with the same quarter last year.
