Cambi signs contract for THP at Rosedale wastewater treatment plant in Auckland, New Zealand
Cambi has entered into a contract with Watercare Services Limited to supply two thermal hydrolysis process (THP) systems for the Rosedale wastewater treatment plant in Auckland, New Zealand.
The contract begins with an engineering phase. Manufacturing is expected to commence following a later notice to proceed and no earlier than 12 months from now.
Thermal hydrolysis will increase digestion capacity at Rosedale without the need for new digesters, support higher biogas production, improve dewatering, reduce biosolids volumes for disposal, and reduce carbon footprint and waste while lowering asset life-cycle costs.
Per Lillebø, CEO of Cambi, remarked:
"Rosedale is a strategically important project in a growing market and marks an important contract for Cambi. Watercare, New Zealand's largest water utility, is investing in long-term treatment capacity, improved performance, and reduced emissions at a major wastewater treatment plant in Auckland. Cambi appreciates the opportunity to support that programme with thermal hydrolysis technology tailored to the site's requirements."
Watercare provides water and wastewater services to 1.7 million people in Auckland and is upgrading the Rosedale plant as part of a broader investment programme to support growth, improve treatment performance, and reduce emissions. Rosedale is Watercare's second-largest wastewater treatment plant, and the wider upgrade programme will increase wastewater flows reaching the site.
The value of the engineering phase is equivalent to a small contract for Cambi, while the total project value is equivalent to a large contract.
The project's current timeline has equipment delivery scheduled for 2028, with operations starting in 2030.
