Veidekke to build Phase 2 of Verdal health centre

11. May 2026 kl. 08:00

Veidekke has signed a contract with Verdal municipality to build Phase 2 of a residential and treatment centre offering 80 round-the-clock care places, located in the centre of Verdal. The project emphasises repurposing and reuse, and is scheduled to be ready for trial operation in February 2028. The assignment is a turnkey project valued at NOK 300 million excluding VAT and will be executed jointly with Veidekke's Verdal-based subsidiary, Grande Entreprenør.

"We are grateful for the trust placed in us, and are very proud to be building the extension to Verdal residential and treatment centre. The residents of the municipality will now benefit from having further important municipal services co-located in a modern building. Our excellent collaboration with the municipality and our partners is ensuring better solutions and predictability for all parties," says Torgeir Loholt Wiig, Director of Veidekke Bygg Trøndelag.

Veidekke won the tender for the collaboration agreement in March 2025, and has since developed the project in close consultation with Verdal municipality and partners in preparation for the municipal council's final decision at the end of March 2026. Construction work will be carried out by Veidekke and Grande Entreprenør, together with other local partners.

The new phase will provide 80 round-the-clock care places with communal areas and staff facilities, as well as the co-location of a range of municipal services including home care, healthy living/rehabilitation, mental health and substance abuse services. The project also includes space for a day centre, a health centre for the elderly and facilities for young people.

Phase 2 encompasses approximately 7,700 m[2] spread over three floors. Some 70% of the facilities will be newly constructed, with the remaining 30% consisting of the refurbished former Verdal residential and health centre. The project includes extensive plans for reuse and repurposing. For example, bricks from the old building will be reused, and suitable materials will be sourced from donor buildings. An agreement has also been signed with the Retura repurposing centre.

"Verdal municipality is very pleased to have Veidekke as a partner and contractor for this project. We are confident that we gain a modern residential and treatment centre that meets our needs. Veidekke's approach to the project and investigation of reuse and repurposing opportunities has opened our eyes to new possibilities and enables us to take major steps towards sustainability," says Birger Gravdal Røeggen, Investment Manager for Health and Child Welfare at Verdal municipality.

Demolition work will commence immediately, with construction starting in June and completion scheduled for February 2028, followed by a one-year trial period. The assignment will be included in Veidekke's order book for the second quarter of 2026.
